Shannon Matheny Geraghty

Shannon Geraghty is an AP Government Teacher at Forest Park High School. Originally from Stamford, CT, Shannon didn’t always plan to go into education. After graduating from American University, Shannon was a successful photographer and media coordinator. Then 29 years ago, she did some substitute teaching and found herself inspired. Almost 30 years later, 13 of which have been in Prince William County, Shannon loves her teaching career and the students she’s been able to inspire.

Shannon got involved with PWEA as an Association Leader so she could have a say in matters affecting education. She has fought to protect worthwhile programs like the Learn and Serve class at Forest Park that was cut due to funding, and to represent all students and education employees that need a voice. Shannon says, “If you are a teacher, bus driver, cafeteria worker, custodian, ESP, parent: get involved in PWEA and use your presence and voice to make a force for change in PWC! We need to work together!”

When Shannon is not busy with teaching or helping with PWEA, she “lives, eats, and breathes politics,” is involved with her community, and loves spending time with her husband and kids. A former PWEA board member as a region rep, Shannon now serves as the Organizing Committee chair helping to organize our “It’s About Time” campaign.
