This document has comprehensive information concerning the need for the addendum to the employee contracts. 

Based on further conversations with the division, I would like to highlight a few important parts:

-The information in the clause will now become part of the 2017-2018 contract of employment.  The division was unable to make the changes in time for receiving of contracts. 

-If an employee is NOT convicted of a crime, yet the termination process still ensues, the employee can still grieve the recommendation for dismissal.

-Nothing has been taken away in terms of rights and responsibilities.  This measure keeps the division in compliance with the law and protects the students.

Please don’t hesitate to contact our office with questions; however, I hope this information clears things up a little.  As I previously stated, this addendum was a surprise.  The information contained in this attached document might have alleviated a lot of undue stress for all employees.  Thank you for your patience as we worked to understand the changes.

Dear PWEA members:

The addendum to employee contracts was definitely a surprise. We have been in touch with the division and have been reassured that a response will be sent out soon. The following concerns were shared:

  • There was no notification or explanation as to the reason this addendum was included with contracts; employees felt completely blindsided.
  • There are some inconsistencies across the division – some administrators are handing the addendum out and some administrators are not, causing confusion with all employees.
  • What happens if an employee does not sign this addendum? What are the consequences?
  • What is the timeline for signing contracts, including the addendum?
  • The biggest concern is that employees feel they are giving up their due process rights to file a grievance.

As soon as we have information, we will share with our members. Please be assured that we are working on this matter.
