June is LGBTQ+ Pride Month, and members of the Virginia Education Association want to affirm the dignity and equality of our LGBTQ+ students and colleagues.
As part of our celebration, VEA Human and Civil Rights will hold virtual events on three consecutive Wednesday evenings, beginning June 2 with an interview with Gavin Grimm. Gavin was 16 when he launched a legal battle for the rights and dignity of transgender people with Gloucester County schools that made national headlines. Sign up here.
Equality Virginia, an organization that fights for equality by advancing protections for LGBTQ+ people and advocating for transgender rights, will meet with us on the following Wednesday, June 9. We’ll also share LGBTQ+ resources VEA offers and offer information on how to advocate for fair policies in your community. Register here.
The Wednesday series will wrap up on June 16 with a Pride Celebration, a high-energy event focused on diversity and featuring music and prizes. We’re inviting community groups to talk about their efforts and to share resources, too. Let us know you’re coming here.
